Ibrahim Abu el-Hawa & family
Ibrahim Abu el-Hawa is a peacemaker living with his family on the Mount of Olives, Jerusalem. A retired telephone engineer, he's a walking philanthropist who does a lot to support his local community, the peace process and social welfare in the Holy Land. His house is open to visits by people interested in peace and reconciliation, visiting from abroad. Ibrahim acts as 'grandfather' to many projects, including Jerusalem Peacemakers and The Way of Sulha. He undertakes personally-driven aid projects toward the Jahalin Bedouin and communities in the West Bank. Ibrahim and family devote much time and energy to supporting their local community, the peace-building movement and hosting foreign visitors. Supporting their household helps the community and the peace process. If the House of Ibrahim ceased doing what it does, an enormous gap would appear.
Your donation to Ibrahim's fund supports: the house's role as a community centre, meeting place and local safe haven; Jerusalem Peacemakers will use its discretion in allocating money from the fund to meet emergencies and contingencies, as they arise.
What happens to your moneyYour donation is made by credit card through PayPal to Jerusalem Peacemakers. We transfer money from UK to Israel when sufficient funds have accumulated to minimise bank transfer and currency conversion costs, which are deducted from the total sum (about 5% for a sum over £100). Transfers are mostly made according to need: what the money will be spent on is discussed at every stage. Funds donated here go to no other destination than Ibrahim's household. Jerusalem Peacemakers deducts no charge.
Support communitiesIf you'd like to form a support community to contribute to Ibrahim's and his household's activities, click here. A support community is a group of friends or colleagues who band together to contribute a monthly sum. Ten people contributing £10 per month makes £1,200 per year!
AccountsIn 2005, we shall be making accounts available to donors on request, to give a sense of how donations are being used. Generalised accounts will be posted on this site too. Naturally, there will be a time-delay of a few months between donation and result. To protect donors and recipients and maintain confidentiality, some specific information will not be given in these accounts or will be disguised. If, as a donor, you wish to remain anonymous, please e-mail us at the time you make your donation, and your identity will be confidentially known only to one or two people in the Jerusalem Peacemakers team in UK.
