Sheikh Abdul Aziz BukhariSheikh Abdul Aziz Bukhari is a Sufi teacher and community leader living on the Via Dolorosa in the Old City of Jerusalem.
He is head of the Uzbek Community in the Holy Land, and a descendant of one of the main writers of the Hadith, the words and actions of the Prophet. He comes from a long line of Sufi sheikhs. Long ago, his family originated from Bukhara in what is now Uzbekistan in central Asia, the original centre of the Sufi branch of Islam. For many years he has conducted dialogues with rabbis and priests of all faiths, actively promoting interfaith reconciliation as a basis for peace between Palestinians and Israelis. He runs a centre for spiritual teaching and reconciliation at his Jerusalem home. His family is involved in peace-oriented youth and community groups too.
Sheikh Bukhari is a significant, charming and accessible figurehead in the religious community of the Holy Land. He is one of the founders of the Jerusalem Peacemakers project. "No basis of religion asks people to kill each other. If we're all going to love each other in the end, why wait until then?" What happens to your moneyYour donation is made by credit card through PayPal to Jerusalem Peacemakers. We transfer money from UK to Israel when sufficient funds have accumulated to minimise bank transfer and currency conversion costs, which are deducted from the total sum (about 5% for a sum over £100). Transfers are mostly made according to need: what the money will be spent on is discussed at every stage. Funds donated here go to no other destination than Ibrahim's household. Jerusalem Peacemakers deducts no charge.
Support communitiesIf you'd like to form a support community to contribute to Ibrahim's and his household's activities, click here. A support community is a group of friends or colleagues who band together to contribute a monthly sum. Ten people contributing £10 per month makes £1,200 per year!
AccountsIn 2005, we shall be making accounts available to donors on request, to give a sense of how donations are being used. Generalised accounts will be posted on this site too. Naturally, there will be a time-delay of a few months between donation and result. To protect donors and recipients and maintain confidentiality, some specific information will not be given in these accounts or will be disguised. If, as a donor, you wish to remain anonymous, please e-mail us at the time you make your donation, and your identity will be confidentially known only to one or two people in the Jerusalem Peacemakers team in UK.
